Ledger® Live: Login | Getting started™ with Ledger®

A concise, practical walkthrough to help new users securely install, log in and begin using Ledger Live — with official resources and best practices.

Introduction

Ledger Live is the official application for managing Ledger hardware wallets and your crypto portfolio. This guide covers the essential steps for downloading Ledger Live, connecting your Ledger device, signing in, and following security best practices.

1. Before you start (what you need)

Checklist

Tip

Always download Ledger Live from the official Ledger website or official app stores — never from search results that look suspicious.

2. Download & install Ledger Live (quick steps)

Download

Visit the official Ledger Live download page to choose the right version for Windows, macOS, Linux or mobile.

Download Ledger Live

Install

Run the downloaded installer and follow the on-screen steps. On mobile, install Ledger Live from the official app store.

3. Initial setup & login

Set up a new device

If you have a new Ledger device, follow Ledger's start guide to initialize your device, create a PIN and write down your recovery phrase securely.

Open Ledger Live

On first launch, Ledger Live will guide you to either create a new device or restore from an existing recovery phrase using your hardware device — never type your recovery phrase into the app or into a website.

Account sync & password

Ledger Live stores account metadata locally and uses the hardware device to sign transactions. You can protect the local app with an optional password, but the recovery phrase + device PIN remain the core security elements.

4. Security best practices

Download only official software

Verify the download URL and checksums when available. Ledger provides signature checks for Ledger Live installers.

Never share your recovery phrase

Your 24‑word phrase is the master key. Ledger and any legitimate service will never ask for it.

Use a passphrase carefully

Advanced users may opt for a passphrase (39th word) for extra security — understand the tradeoffs before using it.
